Activities

Hollywood isn’t just about the movies—it’s a wild mix of history, culture, and non-stop energy. One minute, you’re standing on the same sidewalk as Marilyn Monroe’s star, and the next, you’re hiking up to the Hollywood Sign for the best city view. Vintage record stores, secret speakeasies, world-famous comedy clubs, and old-school diners where rockstars used to hang out—it’s all here. Whether you’re here for the nostalgia, the nightlife, or just to say you’ve been, Hollywood always has something unexpected waiting around the corner.

FESTIVALS
The Hollywood Fringe Event is a fringe theatrical festival that takes place every year in Hollywood, California. The majority of the festival’s indoor venues are located along Hollywood Theater Row, a 1.4-mile (2.3-kilometer) stretch of Santa Monica Boulevard in Los Angeles.
Ben Hill, the event’s founder, began planning a local fringe festival shortly after moving to Los Angeles from Iowa City in 2007. In the summer of 2010, he and fellow organizers produced the inaugural Hollywood Fringe Festival. The festival included 130 performances that year.
The shows aren’t curated in any way (selected based on merit). To perform, you must first pay a registration fee and have a concept and the resources to bring it to life. The festival organizers promote the event and give some assistance, but the theatrical groups must select and sell their own venues and plays. Theater groups presented about 230 works and over 1,000 performances at the 2012 festival. More than 300 shows were developed by companies that took part in the 2014 event.
For the 2016 event, around 56,000 tickets were sold, bringing in an estimated $447,000 in income. The artists and venues receive 100% of the ticket sales proceeds.
