Hollywood is a district within the city of Los Angeles. That means Hollywood doesn’t have its own mayor or city council but is instead governed by Los Angeles city officials. However, Hollywood has local representation through the Los Angeles City Council, neighborhood councils, and other community organizations that influence policies and decisions affecting the area.

Who Governs Hollywood?

Since Hollywood is part of Los Angeles, it falls under the jurisdiction of the LA Mayor’s Office and the Los Angeles City Council. The city is divided into 15 council districts, and Hollywood is primarily covered by Council District 13, which also includes parts of Silver Lake, Echo Park, and Atwater Village. Some parts of Hollywood also fall into Council District 4, which includes areas like Los Feliz and Griffith Park.

Because Hollywood attracts millions of visitors each year, LAPD works closely with business owners, community groups, and private security teams to manage safety concerns, especially on Hollywood Boulevard and the Sunset Strip.

For fire and emergency services, Hollywood is covered by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), with several fire stations throughout the area.
