Los Angeles is set to host a vibrant series of Day of the Dead celebrations beginning November 1, 2025, with numerous events showcasing the rich cultural heritage of this traditional holiday. A key organizer, L.A. TACO, is producing its 14th annual guide to these festivities, aimed at encouraging community members to honor and remember their loved ones by setting up ofrendas (altars) throughout the city.

This year’s celebrations will span from October 25 to November 2, with various events taking place across Los Angeles. For nearly 40 years, Olvera Street has hosted a significant Día de Muertos celebration, featuring nightly programs that include traditional music and performances such as “La Danza de la Muerte” and the Novenario Procession. One of the highlights will be the Carrera de Los Muertos 5k race on November 1 at Olvera Street, which is expected to draw many participants.

The Downtown Día de Los Muertos Celebration at Gloria Molina Grand Park will also take place from October 25 to November 2, showcasing 19 community ofrendas. An opening ceremony is scheduled for October 25, while the closing festivities on November 2 will feature renowned artist Lupita Infante.

Several other events are scheduled throughout the city to mark the occasion. On October 26, the Esperanza Community Housing will celebrate with a festival and concert at Mercado La Paloma, while San Pedro will host its 14th Annual Día de Los Muertos Festival, featuring live music, food, crafts, and a Catrina contest. A themed festival named “Resilience” at the Museum of Latin American Art will also occur on October 26.

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is planning a Day of the Dead Family Day on October 26, offering traditional performances and workshops for families. Additionally, a rooftop celebration at Broken Shaker LA is set for November 1, providing a festive atmosphere for attendees from 5-11 p.m. The Hollywood Forever Cemetery will host its 26th Annual Día de Los Muertos Celebration on the same day, featuring altars, crafts, and a film screening.

Other venues participating in the festivities on November 1 include the Catalina Museum for Art and History, which will host a family festival from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Mid City Mercado, which is organizing its third annual Day of the Dead Block Party with carnival rides, food trucks, and a community altar. The East L.A. Civic Center will be the site of the Annual Día de Los Muertos Celebration by Self Help Graphics from 3-8:00 p.m. Meanwhile, the first DTLA Día de Los Muertos celebration will occur on November 2 along Broadway featuring altars and a Catrina contest.

The Fowler Museum at UCLA will also be hosting a hands-on Day of the Dead event on November 2, which includes arts, crafts, and music. Vidiots in Eagle Rock will offer activities, food, and crafts for families on November 1. On the first Sunday of November, the 25th Annual Day of the Dead family festival in Canoga Park will feature a motorcade and car show.

This year’s celebrations will occur against the backdrop of a recent joint operation involving ICE and federal agents which led to multiple arrests in Southern California, impacting the immigrant community. Various events will be paying special honors to those affected by the recent ICE raids and the personal losses they represent. Alongside ofrendas, attendees can expect live music, cultural performances, art exhibits, and remembrance activities throughout Southern California as part of the Día de los Muertos celebrations.
