Los Angeles – Loni Anderson, the beloved actress best known for her role as Jennifer Marlowe on the iconic CBS sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati,” has passed away at the age of 79 following a prolonged illness. Her publicist, Cheryl Kagan, confirmed the news on Sunday, marking a significant loss for fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry.

Born in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Anderson would have celebrated her 80th birthday next week. She is remembered not only for her television roles but also as a dear wife, mother, and grandmother, as expressed in a heartfelt statement from her family. They shared their sorrow over her passing, highlighting the deep love and connection they will carry forward.

Anderson began her acting journey with a debut in the 1966 film “Nevada Smith,” which starred the notable actor Steve McQueen. Early in her career, she faced challenges securing roles, but her breakthrough came in 1978 when she was cast as Jennifer Marlowe in “WKRP in Cincinnati.” The show aired for four seasons until 1982 and showcased the humorous exploits of employees working at a struggling radio station in Ohio. Anderson’s character not only exemplified beauty and intelligence but also subverted the common “dumb blonde” stereotype, contributing to her acclaim.

Throughout her career, Anderson received three Golden Globe nominations and two Emmy nominations for her work. Beyond “WKRP,” she featured in several other television projects, including the television movie “The Jayne Mansfield Story” in 1980, the series “Partners in Crime” in 1984, and guest appearances on “Nurses,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch,” and “V.I.P.” She also starred in television films such as “Sorry, Wrong Number” (1989) and “A Letter to Three Wives” (1985).

Anderson was married four times. Her first marriage was to Bruce Hasselberg from 1964 to 1966, followed by Ross Bickell from 1974 to 1981. Notably, her relationship with actor Burt Reynolds, whom she married in 1988, garnered significant media attention. The couple adopted a son, Quinton Anderson Reynolds, shortly after their wedding, but their marriage faced challenges, leading to a divorce in 1994. In her 1995 autobiography “My Life in Heels,” she candidly shared details about their relationship and her personal struggles. Her most recent marriage was to Bob Flick in 2008, who survives her along with her daughter Deidra, son-in-law Charlie Hoffman, son Quinton, and two grandchildren, McKenzie and Megan Hoffman.

Following her passing, a private service will be held at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. In honor of her legacy, a public celebration of life will take place at a later date. Friends and fans wishing to pay tribute to Anderson’s memory can contribute to the National Lung Health Education Program and/or the American Cancer Society.

Loni Anderson’s impact on television and the entertainment world remains deeply felt, and her influence will surely endure through her work and the lives she touched.
