Damage from looting at a Los Angeles store

News Summary

Los Angeles County was shaken by multiple looting events during a weekend marked by street takeovers. Local businesses found themselves targeted, with three confirmed looting incidents resulting in damaged storefronts. The surge in crime coincides with chaotic street takeovers, raising concerns among residents and business owners about safety and accountability. Law enforcement agencies are under pressure to address the growing instability as community members express fear over security and their livelihoods.

Los Angeles County experienced a troubling weekend as multiple looting incidents occurred in conjunction with street takeovers, leaving local businesses targeted and communities on edge. Two stores were looted in the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, bringing the total to at least three reported looting crimes over the weekend.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department were dispatched to a T-Mobile store located at the intersection of South Figueroa Street and Slauson Avenue at 2:46 a.m. on Sunday. Upon arrival, they found that windows had been shattered and the interior had been extensively ransacked. It remains unclear if any merchandise was stolen from the T-Mobile store, and officials have not confirmed any connection between the looting and a street takeover that occurred at the same intersection.

Earlier, on Saturday, July 26, at approximately 1:30 a.m., an AutoZone store was also looted during a street takeover at Century Boulevard and Central Avenue in South Los Angeles. Video footage from the incident showed recovered items such as car rims and a car battery strewn around the area, indicating a chaotic scene during the looting. Thankfully, during this incident, no injuries were reported, and no arrests were made.

Following the T-Mobile looting, deputies responded to another street takeover at Wilmington Avenue and Del Amo Boulevard in Carson just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, where a WSS shoe store was also targeted by looters. The aftermath of this incident forced the store to close its doors, with employees boarding up windows to secure the premises. In this case, at least two arrests were made amid the chaos.

While authorities have made arrests related to the WSS store incident, no arrests have been reported regarding the burglaries at either the AutoZone or T-Mobile stores. This lack of accountability has residents and local businesses increasingly concerned about the recurrence of such criminal activities tied to street takeovers.

The phenomenon of the street takeover, where large groups of vehicles gather to perform stunts and take over intersections, has been linked to a rise in looting incidents in neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County. The police have noted a correlation between these events and an upswing in crime, particularly with regards to businesses left vulnerable during the late-night gatherings.

In response to the increasing number of such incidents, community members are expressing their frustration and fear. Local businesses rely heavily on customer trust and the integrity of their storefronts. The looting presents both a financial burden and a sense of insecurity within the community. Residents fear that without effective action from law enforcement, that both the looting and street takeover activities will become a regular occurrence.

Law enforcement agencies are tasked with addressing this phenomenon, balancing crowd control during street takeovers with the protection of local businesses from looting. As investigations continue regarding the looting incidents over the weekend, there is a growing urgency to establish strategies that may curb these trends and enhance public safety in affected areas.

The situation remains fluid, and police are actively seeking information to resolve the ongoing issues. Stakeholders in the community hope that swift action will be taken to restore a sense of safety and security for residents and local businesses alike.
