The grand opening of the Tesla Diner in Hollywood, featuring technology and classic diner food.
Elon Musk’s Tesla Diner opened in Hollywood, transforming a former Shakey’s Pizza into a modern dining experience with electric vehicle charging, innovative technology, and a diverse menu. The diner attracts customers day and night, featuring a humanoid robot serving popcorn and providing a new dining concept that blends Tesla’s tech-forward vision with classic American cuisine. Plans for future expansion could bring the Tesla Diner to major cities around the world.
California – Elon Musk’s venture into the restaurant industry began with the grand opening of the Tesla Diner on Monday in Hollywood. Located on the site of the former Shakey’s Pizza, the diner aims to combine classic diner cuisine with modern technology, catering to both Tesla patrons and diners alike.
The Tesla Diner boasts 80 electric vehicle charging stations and two enormous 66-foot screens that provide entertainment for customers. The diner operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week, allowing patrons to enjoy meals at any hour. Customers can watch movies on the large screens or through the Tesla Diner app directly from their vehicles.
Offering a menu designed by chef Eric Greenspan, the diner serves a variety of classic American diner foods, including the Tesla Burger and Epic Bacon, alongside meals like fried chicken & waffles, grilled cheese, and tuna melts. Menu prices range from $4 for fries to $15 for biscuits with red gravy, making it accessible for many.
The establishment features innovative technology, including a humanoid robot named Optimus that serves popcorn to diners. This high-tech incorporation aligns with Tesla’s vision of integrating cutting-edge technology into various aspects of everyday life.
On its opening day, the Tesla Diner attracted at least 1,000 customers, many of whom had customized their Tesla vehicles with decorative decals, including popular designs inspired by the Doge meme. A highlight of the diner is its 360-degree rooftop, which offers scenic views of the large screens and showcases Tesla’s advanced robotics.
To streamline the dining experience, the diner allows customers to place orders in advance, supported by an automated “geofence” system that prepares meals based on the vehicle’s arrival. Diners reported a friendly and engaging atmosphere while waiting in line, further adding to the overall experience.
Despite the enthusiasm surrounding the opening, security protocols initially restricted access, with guests permitted to enter at 4:20 p.m., a gesture playfully acknowledging Musk’s association with cannabis culture. Protests against Musk’s involvement in the diner were noted nearby, reflecting mixed sentiments about his ventures.
Currently, the diner does not accept cryptocurrency as a payment option, which some customers anticipated. A soft launch prior to the official opening had already created buzz online, showcasing the diner’s unique design and offerings.
If the Hollywood location proves successful, Musk has expressed plans to expand the Tesla Diner concept to major cities and Supercharger sites globally. The establishment aims to merge dining and entertainment within a framework reflective of the Tesla brand’s innovative vision, potentially paving the way for a new dining trend that leverages technology and community.
