Los Angeles – Music producer and artist Tokimonsta, whose real name is Jennifer Lee, has released her highly anticipated new album titled “Eternal Reverie.” The album is set to be available on March 7, coinciding with the start of her North American tour.
The inspiration for “Eternal Reverie” emerged during a recent trip to São Paulo, Brazil. While there, Tokimonsta discovered a sample from a worn-out record by Brazilian artist Jaime Além, which became a central element in her track “Corazón: Death by Disco Part 2.” This track, along with the rest of the album, reflects Tokimonsta’s artistic journey and personal growth, melding electronic dance music (EDM) and house influences with deeper instrumental explorations.
A significant emotional backdrop to the album’s creation was the loss of Tokimonsta’s best friend, Regina Biondo, who died of cancer last year. Tokimonsta postponed the album’s release to care for Biondo during her final days. The album aims to celebrate the life of her friend and helps Tokimonsta process her grief through music.
Tokimonsta’s journey began in Torrance, California, where she started piano lessons at the age of six. However, her true inspirations were diverse music genres, particularly punk, hip-hop, and R&B, that influenced her unique style. She gained recognition in the mid-2000s Los Angeles music scene as part of the Beat Scene, becoming known for her innovative sampling and electronic beats.
In a notable chapter of her career, Tokimonsta faced a personal challenge when she was diagnosed with Moyamoya disease in 2015. This serious condition temporarily affected her ability to hear music, but she made a remarkable recovery. Following her recovery, Tokimonsta released the Grammy-nominated album “Lune Rouge,” making her the first female Asian American producer nominated in the dance/electronic category. This milestone helped establish her as a leading figure in the electronic music industry.
Throughout her career, Tokimonsta has collaborated with a range of prominent artists, including Ty Dolla $ign, Ryuichi Sakamoto, and Anderson .Paak, further expanding her artistic repertoire. Her new album, “Eternal Reverie,” showcases her growth as an artist, balancing upbeat tracks designed for vibrant crowds with introspective instrumental pieces.
After the postponement of the North American leg of her tour last fall, Tokimonsta is set to embark on a 15-date tour titled the “Eternal Reverie Tour.” This tour will include performances at several major festivals, including Ultra Miami and Coachella, along with shows in key cities such as Los Angeles, New York, and Seattle.
The upcoming album and tour mark a significant moment in Tokimonsta’s career, offering fans a blend of infectious dance tracks alongside a heartfelt tribute to friendship and resilience. With “Eternal Reverie,” Tokimonsta aims not only to entertain but to evoke emotion and reflection through her music.
