Hollywood will be the venue for the West Coast premiere of the acclaimed play ‘The Opposite of Love’, presented by Neil Gooding Productions. The production opens on July 25 at the Hudson Backstage Theatre, with a preview performance scheduled for July 24.
This highly anticipated play is both written by and co-starring Ashley Griffin, a Santa Monica native and graduate of NYU Tisch. Griffin’s role in ‘The Opposite of Love’ marks her return to the Los Angeles stage after beginning her career in New York, notably with its debut in 2024 at The Royal Family Theater.
The production is directed by Melora Marshall and features Evan Strand, known for his work in the Frozen National Tour and Zoot Suit at the Mark Taper Forum, playing the role of Will. The narrative follows Eloise, a trust fund heiress, and Will, a hustler facing a downturn in his fortunes. As Eloise hires Will to aid her in overcoming sexual trauma, a complex and evolving bond forms between the two characters.
‘The Opposite of Love’ delves into themes of modern intimacy and the commodification of love, exploring the challenges that today’s generation encounters in relationships—particularly within the context of dating apps. The play has been developed through earlier performances at A.R.T. and Theatre Row, gaining recognition as an Off-Broadway hit.
Neil Gooding Productions has a distinguished reputation for producing notable works that have made an impact on both Broadway and the West End. Their previous titles include award-winning shows like ‘Back to the Future’, ‘Gypsy’, and ‘Harmony.’
The performance runs from July 25 to August 31, with shows scheduled for Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., as well as Sundays at 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices range from $29 to $45, making the production accessible to a diverse audience.
