The UCLA Bruins practice hard as they prepare for the upcoming football season.
The UCLA Bruins have made significant progress in their 2026 football recruiting class by securing commitments from athlete Toray Davis and offensive tackle Micah Smith. Davis, a standout from Colorado, chose UCLA for its academic and athletic opportunities, while Florida’s Smith was impressed by the coaching staff and the promise of early playing time. With these additions, UCLA bolsters its recruiting efforts amid recent challenges, positioning the team strongly for future competitiveness.
Los Angeles – The UCLA Bruins made significant strides in their 2026 football recruiting class over the weekend with commitments from three-star athlete Toray Davis and four-star offensive tackle Micah “Champ” Smith. These additions highlight the Bruins’ ongoing efforts to build a competitive team for the future.
Toray Davis, a standout from Fairview (Colorado) Boulder, announced his decision to join UCLA on Saturday. He is regarded as the No. 3 player from Colorado and received offers from several programs, including Utah, Kansas State, and Oklahoma State. Davis emphasized that academic fit and football opportunities played a crucial role in his commitment to the Bruins. He felt a strong connection with the program during his official visit and appreciated the coaching style of the staff.
Recognized as a versatile two-sport athlete, Davis has shown potential to excel as both a receiver and a safety at the collegiate level. Analysts have noted his athleticism, with many projecting him to play safety due to his skills in pass defense and remarkable tackling ability. Davis stands nearly 6-foot-1 and weighs approximately 190 pounds, with the opportunity to gain more weight in the coming years. His competitiveness and leadership qualities add to his appeal as a recruit.
Simultaneously, Micah “Champ” Smith, a 6-foot-3, 320-pound offensive tackle from Vero Beach, Florida, cemented his commitment to UCLA. Smith is ranked as the seventh-best offensive tackle prospect in the country for 2026 and chose the Bruins over a host of notable schools, including Alabama, Ohio State, and Tennessee. His strong relationship with offensive line coach Andy Kwon and the promise of early playing time influenced his decision significantly. Following his commitment, Smith announced that he would close his recruitment and would not be visiting any other schools.
Should Smith officially sign with UCLA, he would be the highest-ranked addition to the team since quarterback Dante Moore, who was the No. 2 overall prospect in 2023. At Vero Beach High School, Smith served as the starting right tackle and also made contributions on defense, recording tackles and sacks. His performance earned him an invitation to the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game, further establishing his reputation as a rising talent in high school football.
The additions of Davis and Smith bring UCLA’s total to nine commitments for the 2026 class. The Bruins are working hard to enhance their recruiting efforts, especially after recently experiencing some de-commitments. Despite these challenges, UCLA remains competitive in national rankings for recruiting and currently holds over 20 commitments, positioning them in the top ten according to industry sources.
In addition to high school recruits, the Bruins are actively utilizing the NCAA Transfer Portal to bolster their roster. The coaching staff remains committed to finding the right balance of talent through both traditional recruiting and transfer options as they aim to strengthen their program further.
As UCLA continues to build its 2026 class, fans and analysts alike will be eager to see how the team solidifies its roster in the coming weeks. With these recent commitments, the Bruins are making strides toward a promising future on the football field.
