Key Events Overview

On June 16, the Hammer Museum is celebrating Bloomsday with staged readings and performances honoring James Joyce’s literary masterpiece, *Ulysses*, starting at 7:30 p.m. The event has free admission, welcoming literature fans to join the festivities.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival, running through June 29, showcases a diverse range of performances that include comedy shows, plays, dance, and immersive experiences at various venues around the city.

Film and Performances

Long Beach will kick off its Moonlight Movies on the Beach series on June 17, featuring a screening of *The Goonies* at Granada Beach around sunset, with free parking after 6 p.m.

Also on June 17, the Getty’s Harold M. Williams Auditorium will host a screening of *The Dyke Show by JEB*, a notable work from feminist filmmaker and photographer Joan E. Biren. This event will begin at 7 p.m. and will include a talkback session after the screening, with free entry available via advanced reservation.

On the same day, a live quiz show titled Wrong Answers Only will be presented at Dynasty Typewriter, focusing on ice cream trivia. Tickets for this event are priced at $15 and will start at 7 p.m.

Midsummer Events

The Hollywood Bowl will hold An Evening of Folk on June 18 that will feature Rhiannon Giddens and other well-known artists in a special one-night concert. Tickets are available for purchase.

On June 18, the Eastwood venue will host a Cowboy Poetry Workshop, where attendees can learn about cowboy rhymes and engage in live readings, all offered at no cost between 6 to 10 p.m.

Juneteenth Celebrations

Additionally, KCRW Summer Nights is organizing an all-ages dance party at CAAM on June 19, complete with live DJ performances and food trucks. This event will also offer after-hours access to the exhibitions for free attendees.

Theatrical Performances and Workshops

Shakespeare By the Sea will continue with a free performance of Julius Caesar at The Bandshell in Long Beach on June 19 and 20, allowing audiences to experience classic theater outdoors.

On June 20, Ivy Station in Culver City will host Summer Salsa Nights, starting with an introductory salsa lesson followed by a live band performance, both provided free of charge.

Culinary Experiences and Exhibitions

The foodie-focused event, Pies for Justice, will run from June 19 to June 22, featuring local chefs and restaurants as they offer a range of pies to raise funds for Peace 4 Kids and ACLU SoCal.

New culinary experiences include the launch of a lunch and happy hour service at Camélia in the Arts District, along with Saint & Second’s unveiling of a new Social Hour and dessert menu at both its Woodland Hills and Belmont Shore locations starting June 19.

Art enthusiasts can also look forward to the opening of the new exhibition, Queer Lens: A History of Photography, at the Getty on June 17, which focuses on the representation of LGBTQ+ individuals within the photographic arts.

Pride Celebrations

Throughout June, Los Angeles will also feature various Pride-related events, including drag brunches, film screenings, and parades, all designed to honor and celebrate LGBTQ+ Heritage in the community.
