Born on March 28, 1941, in Santa Barbara, California, Mr. Celaya was the son of William Eugene Celaya Sr. and Juanita Herman Celaya. After completing his high school education at Santa Barbara High School in 1959, he joined the United States Army, where he served honorably as a Specialist E-4 stationed in Korea. He was discharged in 1962, having completed his military service to the country.
Mr. Celaya is survived by two daughters, Lisa Celaya of North Hollywood, California, and Susan Davidson, who is married to Ron Davidson. He was also a beloved brother to three sisters: Carmen Esparza, married to Pasqual; Marie Celaya; and Margaret Mira, married to Harry, all of whom currently reside in Santa Barbara, California. Throughout his life, he maintained a deep and meaningful friendship with Ethel Pedraza, who lives in San Antonio, Texas.
A notable family connection, Mr. Celaya was an 8th generation descendant of the prominent German, Cota, and Cordero families from Santa Barbara, which speaks to his rich family heritage. The Celaya family expressed profound appreciation for the staff at Guiding Light Hospice and Parklane West Healthcare in San Antonio, acknowledging the compassionate care provided to Mr. Celaya during his final days.
To honor Mr. Celaya’s life and contributions, a Catholic Rosary will be held on June 4, 2025, at 11:30 AM at St. Margaret Mary Church in San Antonio, Texas. Following the Rosary, a Catholic Mass will take place at noon, celebrating his life surrounded by family and friends. The funeral services will conclude at the Sam National Cemetery, shelter 5, at 1:45 PM on the same day.
The family respectfully requests that donations in lieu of flowers be made to Wreaths Across America, an organization dedicated to remembering and honoring military veterans.
